John the Apostle
The "disciple whom Jesus loved" — from a son of thunder to the apostle of love.
John the Apostle was one of Jesus' closest disciples. Through the Gospel of John, the Epistles of John, and Revelation, he bore deep witness to "love" and "light."
A Son of Thunder
He was originally a fiery fisherman, called along with his brother James "the sons of thunder" — so much so that he once asked to call down fire on a Samaritan village.
The Apostle of Love
After his long years with Jesus, he became the apostle who proclaimed "love one another" most deeply. The words "love," "light," and "life" recur throughout his writings.
