New Testament · character
Peter
A disciple who failed, was restored, and became the rock of the church.
Peter went from a fisherman to Jesus' foremost disciple. He suffered the great failure of denying Jesus, yet was restored and went on to lead the early church.
A Passionate, Impulsive Disciple
He tried to walk on water and sank; he confessed, "You are the Christ," yet was soon rebuked. He was the most passionate of disciples, yet unstable.
Denial and Restoration
On the night Jesus was arrested, Peter denied knowing him three times. But the risen Jesus did not condemn him; instead he asked three times, "Feed my sheep," and restored him (John 21).
A Pillar of the Church
After receiving the Holy Spirit at Pentecost, he became a central leader of the early church, boldly proclaiming the gospel. The change was so great you might wonder if it was the same man.
