Is Jesus God?

Yes. Scripture calls the Word "God" (John 1:1), Thomas worshiped the risen Jesus as "my Lord and my God" without correction, and Paul says in Him "dwelleth all the fulness of the Godhead bodily." Teachings that reduce Jesus to a created being contradict the Bible’s own testimony.

The Bible’s direct statements

"In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God" (John 1:1). When doubting Thomas met the risen Christ he cried, "My Lord and my God" (John 20:28) — and Jesus, far from correcting him, blessed him. Paul writes, "For in him dwelleth all the fulness of the Godhead bodily" (Colossians 2:9), and Hebrews applies to the Son the words, "Thy throne, O God, is for ever and ever" (Hebrews 1:8). These are not scattered proof-texts; they are the New Testament’s consistent frame.

Jesus did what only God may do

Jesus forgave sins, and the scribes understood the claim instantly: "who can forgive sins but God only?" (Mark 2:7). He accepted worship (Matthew 14:33) — while angels in Revelation refuse it (Revelation 22:8-9). He claimed authority over the Sabbath, judged the world’s destiny, and said, "I and my Father are one" (John 10:30). Indeed, the charge for which He was condemned was precisely that He, "being a man, makest thyself God" (John 10:33; 5:18). Either the claim was blasphemy, or it was true.

"Firstborn of every creature" does not mean "first created"

Some point to Colossians 1:15 — "the firstborn of every creature" — to argue Jesus was created. But the very next verse says "by him were all things created ... all things were created by him, and for him" (1:16). The Creator of all things cannot be one of the things created. "Firstborn" in Scripture is a title of rank and inheritance, not birth order — God calls David, the youngest son of Jesse, "my firstborn" (Psalm 89:27). The church has confessed for two millennia what the texts compel: Jesus is fully God and fully man.
