A dedication service confesses that a baby is not the parents' possession but a life entrusted by God, and lifts the child back up to Him. As Hannah vowed and gave Samuel (1 Samuel 1), it is where parents share before the community their commitment to raise the child in faith. The heart of thanksgiving and dedication matters more than the form.
Typically: hymn and prayer, the Word, a dedication prayer (blessing the baby and parents), the parents' commitment and thanks, and benediction. It can be held simply at home with family, or at church led by a pastor. Plan the timing and form with your church in advance.
"Lord, thank You for entrusting this child to us. Let them grow healthy in body and mind, and above all into a child who loves You. Give us, as parents, wisdom and patience. In Jesus' name, Amen." Hold your baby and offer a one-line prayer each day.
