Christian Wedding

The Meaning of Christian Marriage

Scripture describes marriage as a man and woman leaving their parents to become one flesh (Genesis 2:24). The wedding publicly vows that covenant before God and witnesses. Remember together that love is not only feeling but the will to be patient, kind, and unselfish.

Order of a Christian Wedding

Typically: entrance, hymn and prayer, the Word (officiant), the marriage vow, exchange of rings, declaration of marriage, blessing prayer and benediction, and recession. A special song or parents' greetings may be added by church and family tradition.

The Vow and the Officiant Message

The vow is a promise to love and be faithful in joy or sorrow, in health or sickness. Officiant messages often draw on the love of 1 Corinthians 13, the companionship of Ecclesiastes 4, and the mutual love of Ephesians 5 — and they fit beautifully in an invitation or toast.
