Old Testament · character
Samuel
The last judge and the prophet who anointed the first kings.
Samuel was born in answer to his mother's prayer and heard the voice of God from childhood. He anointed Saul and David, ushering in the era of the monarchy.
"Speak, Lord"
Young Samuel, raised in the temple, heard a voice calling him in the night and answered, "Speak, for your servant is listening" (1 Samuel 3). A listening heart defined his whole life.
Anointing Kings
When the people demanded a king, Samuel anointed Saul, and after Saul was rejected, David. "The Lord looks at the heart" became the standard for choosing David.
