The Boy and the Giant

David, the youngest shepherd of Bethlehem, stepped out where no one else dared, facing the Philistine giant Goliath with a single sling-stone "in the name of the Lord Almighty" — and won (1 Samuel 17).

The Anointed One on the Run

For years he lived as a fugitive from the jealous King Saul, yet twice he spared Saul's life when he could have killed him. The anguish of this season is woven through many of the Psalms.

King, and Repentant

After becoming king he committed a grievous sin in the affair with Bathsheba, but when the prophet Nathan confronted him, he broke down and repented without excuse (Psalm 51). His greatness lay not in being sinless, but in his honest repentance.
