Pentecost

The day the church was born — the promised Spirit came.

Pentecost was the event in which the risen and ascended Jesus sent the promised Holy Spirit, so that disciples who had been hiding in fear were born into a bold church.

The Fulfillment of the Promise

Jesus had promised, "When the Holy Spirit comes ... you will be my witnesses to the ends of the earth" (Acts 1:8). On the day of Pentecost, the Spirit came with a sound like a rushing wind and tongues like fire.

People Made Bold

Peter, who had denied Jesus, boldly proclaimed the gospel before thousands, and three thousand repented in a single day. This was the beginning of the church.
