Mary, Mother of Jesus
"May it be done to me according to your word" — a woman who obeyed.
Mary received the angel's announcement and gave birth to Jesus. Even in the midst of fear, she is a model of faith who obeyed the will of God.
The Annunciation
The angel Gabriel told the virgin Mary that she would conceive by the Holy Spirit and give birth to the Messiah. Though afraid, she answered, "I am the Lord's servant; may it be done to me according to your word" (Luke 1).
The Magnificat
Mary sang a song (the Magnificat) praising the God who lifts up the lowly and scatters the proud. It distills the values of God's kingdom toward the weak and humble.
