Old Testament · character
Jeremiah
The "weeping prophet" who never stopped, even when rejected.
Jeremiah cried out for repentance with tears to a Judah heading for destruction, but was turned away. Even in that despair he proclaimed a "new covenant written on the heart."
Called from the Womb
"Before I formed you in the womb I knew you" — to Jeremiah, who declined saying he was too young and unskilled in speech, God said he had appointed him a prophet before he was even born (Jeremiah 1).
Rejection and a New Covenant
His warnings were met each time with mockery and persecution, yet he never stopped. And in the darkest of times he foretold a new covenant: "I will write my law on their hearts" (Jeremiah 31).
