Old Testament · character
Isaiah
"Here am I. Send me!" — the prophet of comfort.
Isaiah saw a vision of the holy God and was called. Alongside judgment, he proclaimed comfort and salvation through the suffering servant (the Messiah) more vividly than anyone.
Before the Holy One
In a vision where angels cried, "Holy, holy, holy," Isaiah realized his own uncleanness and fell apart. When his lips were purified with a burning coal, he answered, "Here am I. Send me!" (Isaiah 6).
The Suffering Servant
Isaiah 53 portrays a servant "pierced for our transgressions." The New Testament cites this passage more than any other to explain the cross of Jesus.
