Stephen
The church's first martyr, who died forgiving.
Stephen was one of the early church's seven deacons. After a bold testimony, he was stoned to death — the first martyr of the church.
A Spirit-Filled Testimony
Full of grace and power, Stephen boldly testified to the gospel before the council, tracing the history of Israel. His face is recorded as having been "like the face of an angel" (Acts 7).
A Death Like His Lord's
Even as he was being stoned, he forgave: "Lord Jesus, receive my spirit," and "Do not hold this sin against them." Saul (Paul) stood by, watching it all.
