Old Testament · character
Sarah
The son of promise received with laughter — a mother of faith.
Sarah was the wife of Abraham. In old age she received Isaac, the son of promise that had seemed impossible, by faith.
A Promise Hard to Believe
At the word that she would bear a son at ninety, Sarah laughed to herself. God responded, "Is anything too hard for the Lord?" (Genesis 18).
A Name That Became Laughter
When the son was born as promised, he was named "Isaac (laughter)." The laughter of doubt had turned into the laughter of joy.
