Old Testament · character

Ruth

A foreign woman's loyalty — a love written into David's family line.

Ruth was a Moabite woman who, even after losing her husband, followed her mother-in-law Naomi to the very end. She would later be written into the family line of David and of Jesus.

"Your God Will Be My God"

When Naomi, having lost her husband and two sons, set out to return home, her daughter-in-law Ruth forsook her own people and gods and followed her, saying, "Your people will be my people and your God my God" (Ruth 1).

Restoration and Lineage

Ruth was a poor foreigner gleaning grain, yet through the protection and marriage of her kinsman Boaz she was restored. From her descendants came King David, and ultimately the family line of Jesus.
