Elisha succeeded Elijah, asking for a "double portion" of his spirit, and revealed the mercy of God through countless healings and miracles.
A Double Portion of the Spirit
When Elijah was taken up in a whirlwind, Elisha received his cloak and took up his mission. What he asked for was not power, but "a double portion of your spirit" (2 Kings 2).
Miracles of Everyday Life
He filled a widow's oil, cleansed Naaman's leprosy in the Jordan River, and "opened the eyes" of his servant, surrounded by enemies, to see horses and chariots of fire. His miracles were always directed toward the weak.
