Old Testament · character

Daniel

A man who kept his faith in the heart of a foreign empire.

Daniel was carried off to Babylon as a captive and rose to become a high official of the empire, yet he never compromised his faith in God or his prayer life under any pressure.

An Uncompromising Daily Life

From the small matter of refusing the king's food to the life-risking refusal to stop praying three times a day, Daniel's faith showed itself not in crisis but in the habits of ordinary life.

The Lions' Den

Even under a decree banning prayer, he opened his windows and prayed "just as he had done before," and was thrown into the lions' den — but God shut the lions' mouths (Daniel 6). Even the foreign king was led to exalt God.
