About
About SYW Bible
SYW Bible is a free, independent project for reading the Bible online, finding verses for whatever you are walking through, and turning them into verse cards you can save and share. This page explains what you will find here, which Bible translations we use, and how the verse backgrounds are written.
What you will find here
- All 66 books of the Bible to read for free — start reading.
- Verses gathered by topic and life situation (comfort, anxiety, healing, gratitude, and more) — browse verses by topic.
- A verse of the day and shareable verse cards you can save or send to a friend.
The Bible translations we use
Our English text uses the King James Version (KJV) and the World English Bible (WEB). Both are in the public domain, which means they can be read, copied, and shared freely. We do not host copyrighted translations such as the NIV or ESV. The KJV preserves the classic, familiar wording many readers search for, while the WEB offers the same text in clear, modern English.
How we write the verse backgrounds
Many verse cards include a short background that explains the historical and literary context in which the verse was written — who wrote it, to whom, and what comes before and after it. Where a verse is commonly misread or quoted out of context, we add a brief “read it rightly” note. Our aim is to stay concise, accessible, and faithful to the passage in its own setting, rather than to argue for any one denomination. These notes are meant as a starting point for your own reading and meditation, not a substitute for it.
